Overview and themes for 2027
One festival day. Four stages. The senior, cross-sector room for the people who decide what AI is worth — not just what it can do.
Uneven AI: the theme for 2027
2027 is not "more AI". It's uneven AI — moving at four different speeds inside the same organisation at once:
- Off-the-shelf, pioneering. Fast benefit, real disruption in rollout and reconciling incompatible tools across teams.
- Specialist, built for us. Slower and harder, but where the real competitive advantage now lives.
- AI in the enterprise. The move to scale: deterministic, reliable systems a business can run on, not just experiment with.
- Social context. Regulation, security and sovereignty are now board-level questions.
The event has grown from a 150-strong pioneer room in June 2026 to 800+ senior professionals in 2027 — proof the conversation has moved from early-adopter curiosity to board-level priority in twelve months.
Why now
AI stopped being a side project in 2026. UK business use of AI nearly tripled in under two years, from 12% to 35% — but adoption is shallow: the average business uses only 1.4 to 1.6 AI technologies, and most of what's live today is borrowed, not built. 70% of leaders expect AI to fundamentally change their business model within five years; only 10% think their business is ready today. The CommerceAI festival exists to close that gap with evidence, not hype.
Four content tracks
- The AI-Empowered Customer. What the customer is doing with AI, and how the business responds to behaviour it doesn't control — search agents, social discovery, autonomous shopping tools.
- The AI-Empowered Enterprise. Enterprise-built AI — apps, features, chatbots, personalisation — where the business owns adoption, value proposition and trading outcome.
- AI-Powered Operations. Automation, process and decisioning. Pricing, inventory, supply chain and commercial optimisation are where AI adoption is lowest today: proven whitespace.
- The AI-Transformed Enterprise. How AI changes the business model itself — data and decisioning as monetisable assets, board-level risk and reward.
Five vectors run through every theatre so the themes carry across the day: Data (ownership, access, monetisation), Governance (procurement, internal controls, security), Sovereignty (customer independence, company control, jurisdiction), Learning & Skills (readiness at individual, team and board level) and Differentiation (what can't be commoditised or easily copied).
What happens on the day
- 1:1 Meetings. Pre-qualified, double opt-in meetings with experts in every aspect of commercial AI.
- Innovation Zone. A dedicated space to meet innovative start-ups pushing new ground in commerce AI — eight spots.
- Learning Labs. Demo and craft sessions on the show floor, each with a one-page brief in the event app.
- Agent Academy / Digital Sherpa. New for 2027: a 30-minute drop-in where delegates configure and launch a working AI agent from a pre-wired template using live MCP-connected data — and a slow lane where senior delegates watch a practitioner build.
Who's in the room
800+ senior commercial and technology leaders from retail, travel, hospitality, leisure, media, entertainment and finance; 73% at Director level or above; 77% based in the UK and Ireland; 100,000+ reach through the CommerceAI, CustomerX, RetailX and InternetRetailing channels.
